The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) recommends these 5 Car Maintenance Tips for your Summer Trip:
CHECK - Cooling System. According to the ASE, the biggest cause of summer vehicle breakdowns is overheating. So make sure to have your cooling system checked, flushed, and refilled if necessary before you hit the road.
CHECK - Air Conditioning. While your mechanic is checking your vehicle's cooling system, have them check your air conditioning and fluids too so that you don't end up baking in the summer heat.
CHECK - Wiper Blades. Winter, especially the one we had this year, can wreak havoc on your wiper blades and when a summer storm decides to roll in during your drive, you may be left unable to clearly see the road. So before you hit the road, replace your old blades and top off your washed fluid!
CHECK - Tires. While you should have your tires rotated every 5,000 miles, it's also important to check the condition of your tires and the spare. Hot weather can cause the air inside your tires to expand, and if the tires are in poor condition it can cause a blowout.
CHECK - Oil. This maintenance tip is important year-round, not just before your summer road trip. Regular oil changes are necessary to maintaining your vehicle's health, so take a look at your owner's manual to see how often you should schedule an oil change based on your driving conditions.
