GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado Updates for 2015
DELAWARE, Ohio – No, you didn't read the title of this article wrong. Even though the 2014 Chevy Silverado just recently hit the road, rumor has it GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado updates for 2015 are in the works! Though we may be biased, we think the 2014 Silverado is impressive. But with stiffening competition, it looks like GM has realized they can't afford not to fast-track updates for the truck's 2015 model.
Keeping mostly tight lipped in an interview with The Detroit News, GM's Silverado Executive Chief Engineer did slightly confirm updates for the pickup. A key update would be boosted fuel economy, which could possibly be accomplished with a transmission that utilizes more than the current six gears. We've heard rumors about the eight-speed transmission, and its inclusion could provide the improved fuel economy GM is going for. However, the automaker has also hinted at a weight reduction that could improve fuel efficiency by up to 20% through the use of aluminum and composite materials. Possibly paired with start-stop technology, the 2015 Silverado would be more fuel efficient than you've ever seen it. Last but not least, the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado updates for 2015 will also include new appearance enhancements and technology.
“You’ll see these kinds of technologies over the next few years, a whole array of neat, new technologies, some focused on fuel economy, some focused on capability,” Luke, GM's Silverado Executive Chief Engineer, said to The Detroit News.
We won't have to wait long to confirm these details because the new 2015 Silverado is expected to debut before the end of this year!
