The Camaro Z/28 is actually so powerful, that it created a problem for itself. The Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires with their track-oriented tread design provide so much traction, and the Brembo carbon-ceramic brake rotors provide so much stopping force (up to 1.5 g in deceleration force), that the wheels were actually rotating in the tires! So to find a wheel slip solution for the Camaro Z/28, engineers marked one of the tires with a chalk line relative to the valve system on the wheel at the beginning of the lap, and then realized at the end of the lap the tire had rotated at least a full 360 degrees!
The first attempt to resolve the issue involved a racing technique: using an abrasive paint around the bead of the wheel where the tire meets the rim, to combat slippage, but it wasn't strong enough! After some trial and error, engineers discovered 'media blasting' was just what they needed. Media blasting involves using an air gum to shoot a gritty material at the wheel's surface, creating texture in the paint for the wheel to grip. And it was smooth cruising from there!
